🌳With Sustainuary and the winter term having come to a close, Lawrenceville’s Sustainability Council reflects and celebrates all of the hard work, planning, and organization that went into the months of January and February. Through our engaging events and outreach, SusCo has spread our message of green living across campus! Among many accomplishments, we are especially proud of…
- 🧑🌾🚜Community Service Subcommittee’s planning for two OTEs in the spring, which will bring young kids to the Big Red Farm to both learn about the animals and plant as well as harvest what they planted.
- 👕👚Events Subcommittee’s successful hosting of The Trashion Show, Eco-Entertainment Night, and Dinner in the Dark featuring a table for students to craft roses out of newspaper.
- 💬🤝Facilities Subcommittee’s attendance at Pennington’s OASIS-Central NJ Schools sustainability meeting, where Isha Poluru ‘27, Louise Carroll ‘26, and Aryan Kumar ‘25 fostered discussion amongst other sustainability-minded high school students.
- 🥣🎥Food & Farm Subcommittee’s collaboration with Tsai Dining Sustainable Fare to host the newest edition to the dining hall, yogurt bowls, as well as Eco-Entertainment Night and Dinner in the Dark with the Events subcommittee.
- 🏘️📚House Subcommittee’s coordination and production of the House Trashion Show and their launch of the school-wide book donation program in collaboration with BookSmiles.
- 📸📱Outreach’s Instagram stories during Sustainuary, featuring facts, statistics, and tips to be more sustainable.
- 💦🐊2/20 smeeting held by guest speaker, Luca Martinez, who amazed us with Everglades’ beauty through storytelling and filmmaking as a means of advocating for environmental preservation.
🌎This tradition of Sustainuary is critical in reminding our community that sustainability is at times highly concentrated, but for the most part, also very interdisciplinary. Looking ahead, we are excited to kick off Spring Term and continue this momentum with Earth Month in April.
👏Finally, I would like to thank Dr. Laubach, Ms. Seo, the Leadership Team, our faculty subcommittee on SusCo and our 60+ regular club members for their time, dedication, and positive spirit this term. I can’t wait to see what else we can do together!
🌳Stay sus🌳,
Riley McKibben ‘25
