Sustainary 2025 has been such an exciting month for SusCo as we delved into a month of sustainability-focused events that brought students together to learn, connect and engage in fun activities with an environmental twist.
We kicked off Sustainuary with a hands-on experience, where students could make their own smoothie bowls. With a variety of fresh fruits, granola and toppings available, this event was an amazing way to introduce healthy, sustainable eating choices in our very own dining hall. Students enjoyed getting creative with their bowls, an experience that ultimately sparked conversations about the benefits of sourcing fresh, local ingredients. Regarding feedback, students expressed that they wish there were more toppings.
Game night with chipotle, charades and environmentally-themed jeopardy on January 24th was also a great hit. Students bonded over shared activities and there was a great turnout for jeopardy.
Dinner in the Dark event was the most unique and reflective experience of Sustainuary. With dimmed lights and candlelit dining, students enjoyed an intimate, thought-provoking meal that emphasized energy conservation while also complementing the spirit of Valentine’s Day. This event encouraged mindfulness—not just about energy use, but also about appreciating food and community in a different setting. Students loved the atmosphere, and future iterations could enhance the experience by incorporating discussions on food sustainability or guest speakers.
Overall, Sustainuary was successful in making sustainability engaging, hands-on, and enjoyable for students. The events provided a blend of education and fun, ensuring that participants walked away with a greater awareness of sustainability in daily life. To enhance future Sustainuary events, we could expand food variety, tie sustainability more explicitly into entertainment events, and incorporate prizes for competitions. Gathering more structured feedback from students will also help refine event planning and ensure that each activity remains both impactful and enjoyable. As we look ahead, Sustainuary will continue to evolve, offering even more innovative and meaningful experiences to inspire sustainability at Lawrenceville.
