Sustainuary 2023 Recap

[metaslider id=”755″]

Lawrenceville recently celebrated Sustainuary, a student-led celebration of campus environmental work held annually in January and February.

The focus of this year’s programming was to highlight the ubiquitous nature of sustainability issues and empower the community to participate in all aspects of campus life. With this in mind, the Sustainability Council hosted multiple events and made changes in collaboration with a variety of groups on campus:

  • Trashion Show at School Meeting, judged by Student Council with reusable whiteboards (and, needless to say, green markers) and emceed by the leaders of Impulse Comedy Troupe
  • Vegan pasta cooking class with the Cooking Club
  • A Coffee House Open “Mic” Night (without the mic) in the Bath House to celebrate Lunar New Year, with student performances, vegan cookies, and bring-your-own-cup vegan cocoa, in partnership with the Pan-Asian Alliance and Allegro Council
  • Environmental Writing Workshop on nature-inspired poetry with Homeland Stories
  • Articles on topics of sustainability in every section of an issue of The Lawrence
  • LED candlelit “Dinner in the Dark” on Valentine’s Day in Tsai Commons and Abbott Dining Room
  • “Rewilding: Conservation in Action” speaker event with the National High School Climate Forum
  • Increased vegan and locally sourced dining options in partnership with Sustainable Fare

I would like to thank the Leadership Team, the entire Council, and everyone who made this possible!

With Earth Month just around the corner (in April!), the Sustainability Council looks forward to working with more groups in the spring and continuing its efforts to promote sustainability.
