The Sustainability Council ended the year strong, with a Spring Term full of school-wide sustainable efforts. Students across campus celebrated Earth Month and opted for sustainable alternatives to throwing out their books and unwanted clothes at the end of the year. Here are some highlights from each subcommittee’s accomplishments this term:
- The Community Service Subcommittee planned and executed two One Time Events: Harvesting at Living in Love Food Pantry Garden and Garden Cleanup at Slackwood Elementary School.
- The Events Subcommittee and House Subcommittee collaborated to organize one of our most attended events of the past years: The Earth Day Flea Market, raising over 2000 dollars for the Watershed Institute. They also promoted the Big Red Box initiative, which was led by Riley Mckibben ‘25 and Eli Lacey ‘25.
- The Facilities Subcommittee completed the application for Lawrenceville’s certification with the National Wildlife Foundation’s EcoSchools Program. They are eagerly waiting for a response.
- The Food Subcommittee brought back the beloved smoothie bar to Tsai and Abbott dining halls.
- The Outreach Committee continues to publish the VILLEage Green Newsletter, the school’s only publication dedicated to sustainability on campus and globally.
