One of the most notable new additions to Smeetings, or all-school meetings, features an energetic sustainability announcement presented by Louise Carroll ‘26, president of the Sustainability Council. Every Thursday, Carroll goes up at Smeeting and, with her signature Among Us sound effect in hand, announces the winner of the weekly sustainable house feed competition. This year, Susco has placed a greater focus on sustainable homemade feeds, which are intended to promote more eco-friendly feeds and limit ordering takeout. Proposed by several members of the Sustainability Council, including Gloria Yu ‘26, each house’s sustainable feed is judged, with the winner awarded 10 house points and a shoutout at Smeeting. This house-wide competition was proposed when Yu and others noticed that most food orders are placed through online delivery apps, resulting in significant waste and transportation emissions. With the goal of making feeds more sustainable, Yu knew the first step was simply raising consciousness of the environmental impact of feeds. Susco aims for this sustainable house feed competition to not only raise awareness about the origin of food and encourage ordering from places known to be more sustainable, but also to set a precedent for how Lawrentians should make more sustainable choices on a regular basis.
