From January 7 to January 11, 2025, dazzling new products debuted at the Consumer Electronics Show. Over 141,000 attendees were at the venue in Las Vegas, supporting the 4,500 exhibitors who presented their top technological innovations in AI, digital health, energy sourcing, transportation, and many others, for a brighter future for sustainability.
One exhibitor, the Germany-based company Henkel, unveiled its AI solution to sustainable laundry and dishwashing. With Henkel’s new Smartwash concept, consumers may rely on AI, which senses and portions the perfect amount of detergent at the right time in each wash cycle. The developers explained that Smartwash is aimed to be suited to the convenience of consumers, while being sustainable by minimizing the amount of waste and work that goes into each laundry load.
With recent rapid advancements in AI, many other household electronic companies presented their AI-powered products at the show, including LG Electronics, TCL Technology, and Samsung. AI was used to make products from refrigerators to TVs, yet one might also wonder whether the world really needs so many more personalized appliances. Slightly more pessimistic views expressed that sustainability commitments were simply vague promises made at the end of each keynote slideshow, while others noticed that there was a big difference from CES 2024 where most technology companies pledged to take their part in the fight combating climate change.
The Consumer Electronics Show is meant to set the mood for technological innovation in the upcoming year. As consumers of these products, if we ourselves make the demand for sustainability louder in the market, technology companies will realize their obligation as the world’s leading innovators, to commit to sustainable initiatives.
