Medicinal and Native Garden Planting

What better way to enjoy a break in a busy Lawrenceville day than to connect with fellow students and faculty for gardening? On Wednesday, September 25, 2024, Lawrenceville students and Health and Wellness Center staffs gathered to plant medicinal and native plants with the help of Dr. Laubach and the The Big Red Farm staff. This newly planted floral haven of medicinal plants can be found behind the Al Rashid Health and Wellness Center next to Lawrenceville’s new Big Red Park. The purpose of this garden is to create a beautiful space by the Health and Wellness Center, as well as to provide an additional location for harvesting plants to make teas for the farm and events. Some of the plants that will be used for the teas are Columbine, a red plant that attracts hummingbirds and butterflies, known to help with general stomach issues; Monarda, a plant also referred to as wild bergamot, believed to help with fevers, headaches, and digestive issues; and Echinacea, some of which were purchased, while others were grown from seeds by members of the Big Red Farm, used to help with infections and pain. Looking ahead to spring, the Health and Wellness Center will have a thriving garden able to produce delicious teas for the campus.
